Campus Kids Summer Camp
2017 Staff Interviews
Group: The Mini Mountain
Hometown: Mahwah, NJ
Position: Counselor for the sophmore girls
Favorite Activities: Friendship Bracelets, Zumba, Swim, and Ceramics
When not at camp: I go to school at Roger Williams University. I'm apart of an acapella group there and also the chorus. I'm the elected secretary of our Hillel as well. When I'm not at school I train in martial arts and karate.
What's your favorite part about working at camp?
I think it's getting to see the campers
progress in various activities. Watching them go through the process of
setting a goal for themselves and working everyday to achieve it is
awesome. I see it in gymnastics a lot. A kid will say they want to do a
handspring and then finally after days of working at it they get it.
When that happens, as a counselor, it's like the best feeling ever.
How'd you get into martial arts? My sister actually started before I did. I would go and sit in on her class. Eventually I started watching the teen and adult classes, which is the class I ended up joining. I started about 8 months after my sister, and we did it together for a while, but now she stopped. I was a cheerleader for a while and I felt like I wasn't going to progress much more in it, so I was looking for something else and martial arts just sort of fell in my lap!
What is your spirit animal and why?
My spirit animal would have to be a cat. I love being social and being around people, but at the same time I need time by myself to decompress. Also, I love cats.
